Acute pyogenic arthritis of the Hip in childhood.

Abstract

|
Fourteen cases of the acute hematogenous septic hip in the childhood under age of 13 years are reported. The causative organism is a coagulase positive staphylococcus in 10 cases and streptococcus in one. In the remainders no organism were cultured.
As a regimen of treatment for this condition, immediate decompression arthrotomy with open drainage or primary closure of the affected joint is stressed to minimize the sequelae as early as diagnosis is made.
Importance of post-arthrotomy immobilization and ,massive systemic antibiotics administration is also emphasized until it has healed.
